In early 1999, my web development company was engaged to build a web site for Christina Aguilera by her management. We saw right away that the dedication of resources that RCA Records was providing meant that they felt she was going to be a huge success -- that, of course, turned out to be a major understatement. During most of 1999, we gave her a web presence that was far and above what a lot of other artists in the industry were doing; she was one of the first out of the box with dynamic audio and video streaming, as well as an e-commerce merchandising effort. This gave me an opportunity to photograph a major talent and I remeber the first time I looked at her through a camera lens gave me the same feeling that other photographers must have felt like when they first saw Marilyn Monroe. Her manager at the time was interested to know how we would get along, since she was only 18 at the time. When he asked me how I liked working with her, I told him: "It's a good thing I'm not into young girls because otherwise I would be in agony now..." When he asked her how she liked working with me, she said: "Oh, he's pretty cool for an old guy." Christina gave me total access to her and worked with me better than most conventional business clients I have. The following pictures are some of my favorites and the ones on the WestBeth rooftop in NYC have a special significance because the Twin Towers can be seen in the background. Little did we know back in those innocent days.... ![]() Dance Rehearsal for Summer 1999 Tour Home ||| Click Here for Next Photo |
